In-County Vietnam by Auburn (FRAO)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Ezra/Vin, mainly
Length: novella - approx 37,000 words.

This won a runner-up award for the Best Adult Non-ATF AU, which means it was darn close in points tosara_merry99's "Sepulcher Mountain" which won (see my last entry). And I have to say, it would be a close vote for me as well. This is a wonderfully dark story, set during the 1970's in Vietnam - during the war, and up through the American evacuation/pull-out. Auburn does a stellar job with the characters, keeping them where we see the canon in them, but also adapting them so well to her universe that one can actually see them there. It's a dark story, though, as I said, very much like "real life" in many ways. And real war. It's those qualities to it that appeal most strongly to me, but I do warn you.
Auburn does an excellent job of mixing all the elements that the reader needs to understand what's going on and why, keeping it historically accurate and realistic, but not too much so. The atmosphere is as heavy and pungent as the country it's set in, and easy to get as lost in the story as the jungles. Another very worthy award-winner.

P.S. I love you
I 'got' some movies to put on my mp3/video player thing, for when i go on holiday but actually couldn't resist watching them now *G*
P.S. I love you was good, although i never really knew whether to laugh or cry, i was constantly in limbo which felt a bit weird.
It was worth it to hear JDM speak in an irish accent though ;P *G*
But i do prefer the book, it was more bittersweet and left more of a mark on me. Although, i didn't like the ending in the book, whereas i loved the ending in the movie and JDM's character in general.
Also watched How She Move, which is awesome. Typical hip-hop, urban, dance movie, but less publicized and more 'real' than for example Step Up.
Am now watching Gridlock'd which i've seen plenty of times before, it's so funny yet not at the same time. S'great. Worth it just to see Tupac in his last movie role.
Anywayz, thats all i have to say really. I'm drowning myself in fic to try and take my mind off waiting for Sunday XD
OOH, got a question for you though, I was reading a fic which led me to question why the hell was the DW episode 'The Idiots Lantern', actually called 'The Idiots Lantern'!? so after googling frantically with
pirate_ellabean, and even not finding the answer on wikipedia, we found it actually is just slang for the word television in the 1950's.Anti-climax much?!
Anyway, still have no idea why televisions were nicknamed that so if anyone does know, feel free to increase

Just watched an amazing vid by obsessive24 titled "Climbing up the Walls". It's Firefly/Supernatural/Heroes and focuses on incest and the effect of such a relationship. Very well made, and I suggest you check it out.

Summary: Five individual ficlets about the ways that Lee and Kara might pop the question. Summaries of each in 1 word: Traditional, Cockpits, Permanent, Morning, and A Toast. ;)

A/N: Well, honestly this was inspired by reading a lot of fic and my brain protesting very loudly in my head about Lee and Kara getting engaged could not be conventional. As the last line of the last ficlet says, "Since when were they ever conventional anyway?" ;) So I sat down and cranked out 5 unconventional proposals (of which my favorite, let me note off-hand, is #2). But, amazingly, it's my very first venture into BSG fic, even though I've been around the fandom off and on since season 2. So hoo-rah for that. And hugest thanks to my beta, </a></b></a>dramaturgca!
